The Basketball Association is currently conducting advanced contacts with the Georgia Basketball Association in order for the Israeli team to be a partner team in hosting one of the houses at the European Championship 2021, Israel Today announced.
This means that if you qualify for the tournament, the Israeli national team will automatically be placed in a house to be played in Tbilisi, and you will even receive the main hours of the games, of course a second priority after the local national team. The Georgians will also assist with special hosting packages so that as many fans as possible come from Israel.
Recall that in the 2017 European Championship, in which Israel hosted one of the tournament houses, a similar agreement was signed with the Lithuanian Association, and indeed more than 1,000 fans came from Lithuania to Israel and provided a special, colorful basketball atmosphere.
The contacts between the union members in Israel and the Georgian union representatives, led by the union president and past player Pata Guraspoli, have been going on for several weeks and it is estimated that the agreement will soon be finalized.
4 houses, 4 hosts
Last July, FIBA announced that Georgia (Tbilisi), the Czech Republic (Prague), Germany (Cologne, the same venue as the Final Four Euroleague) and Italy (Milan) were selected to host the four houses in the tournament. The knockout games will be played in Berlin. .
To win Georgia President Salome Zorabishvili's special came to the FIA hearing to persuade those present in the country's readiness to host one of the houses.
A long, yet easy way
Even before Israel finally signs the agreement, the blue-and-white team has to go through early. The group of Oded Ketch was inaugurated with House A together with Spain, Poland and Romania. The first three from home will fly to a tournament that will include 24 teams, and on paper it seems that the Israeli team should not have a hard time on the task and secure its 30th qualification for the tournament and its 14th straight.
The early games will begin this coming February when Israel will host Poland on 20.2 and 24.2 will host Romania. The next game window will be November 2020. On November 27, Spain will arrive in Tel Aviv and three days later Israel will leave for Poland. The last window will be played in February 2021, and Israel will end the campaign in two foreign games - 18.2 in Romania and 21.2 in Spain.
