Four Hills Tournament in Bischofshofen: silver jumping

2020-01-06T20:11:28.851Z

Four jumpers still had chances of winning the four hill tour. However, Dawid Kubacki dominated the tension from the gold fight in Bischofshofen - and so the duel for second place came into the spotlight.

The last jump: Leading Dawid Kubacki owned the final flight of this four hill tour. After 140.5 meters he landed clean with both skis, raised his arms and cheered. The overall victory could not be taken away from him. It didn't matter that he fell in the snow in the run. A little later, his colleagues lifted him onto the shoulders of Bischofshofen on their shoulders.

Closing time: "It was a tough day. I am incredibly glad that I stayed calm and did my job," said Kubacki after the victory, which was never really in danger in Bischofshofen. And Stefan Horngacher, today's national coach and former coach of Kubacki said: "Dawid did a great job, he was the best jumper."

Strong, Karle - even stronger from Dawid!

The silver jumping: Only the fight for second place on this four hill tour was exciting. Marius Lindvik wobbled after landing after 137 meters and cheered, although pursuer Karl Geiger was still in line. The German jumped 136 meters and got better wind points, but that wasn't enough for second place in the overall classification. In the end, 2.6 points were missing, Geiger finished third behind the 21-year-old.

The fine gentleman: "It was very nice today, it just makes me happy," said Geiger, who was still a bit queasy with the wind in the third competition last Saturday: "Innsbruck was a bit of a shame, but now everything is chic. " His coach seemed more euphoric: "He jumped a great tour and got in great shape. With the third overall position you can really be seen. That is great for Karl."

Cherry on the cake: The three jumpers on the overall podium also landed on the daily podium. Dawid Kubacki set his first victory of the day in a four hill tour on his overall victory. With a total of 300.9 points, he dominated in Bischofshofen ahead of Karl Geiger (291 points) and Marius Lindvik (289.4 points). Read the report about jumping from Bischofshofen here.

Ski Jumping - Dawid Kubacki joins Adam Malysz (2001) and Kamil Stoch (2017 and 2018) as only Polish ski jumpers to win the Four Hills Tournament. # 4Hills

First round: The conditions did not annoy the jumpers this time. The weather remained constant. So there were no surprises. Kubacki showed the longest jump at 143 meters, followed by Geiger and Lindvik. Gregor Schlierenzauber had nothing to do with the win, but after a long crisis, he ends up with a smile on his face, even at 129 meters.

Jumped off the podium: Ryoyu Kobayashi was one of the four jumpers before Bischofshofen who could have won the tour. After his first attempt at the Paul Ausserleitner hill, the chances were gone. At just 135.5 meters, it was well behind Geiger (140 meters). It was then clear that the victory would be decided among the leading trio.

Second run: The obviously exhausted Kobayashi looked accordingly unfocused on his second jump. "It's just through," said ARD expert Dieter Thoma. Nothing changed on the podium. The Prevc family was happy with Cene in 22nd place, Domen in ninth and Peter in fifth place, but one of their best family results. That's something too.

Surprise of the tour: In the future, his colleagues will probably keep a better eye on him. Silver winner Lindvik was the discovery of this year's tour. "It was an incredible experience," said the Norwegian on ARD: "I didn't expect to do so well. I'm incredibly happy." Despite being only 21, he was exhausted: "You are happy when you can relax." At least a couple of days. The German jumpers no longer celebrated on Monday. They made their way home because the World Cup will continue this weekend. Then they jump off the hill in Val di Fiemme, Italy.
