Sadio Mane won the African Footballer of the Year award for 2019 today after crowning the UEFA Champions League champion with Liverpool and leading Senegal to the African Cup of Nations final.
Mani, 27, won the award for the first time after he finished second in the voting in the past two years, behind Egyptian Mohamed Salah, his Liverpool colleague.
Mane was third in 2016.
Mane is the second Senegalese to receive the award only after Haji Diouf, who won in 2001 and again in 2002 after moving to Liverpool.
Mani surpassed Riyadh Mahrez and Salah in a vote for coaches and leaders of national teams and received the award at the annual ceremony of the African Union in Hurghada in Egypt.
