In a related context, the President of the Iranian National Olympic Committee, Syed Reza Salehi Amiri, sent a letter of protest to the President of the Asian Olympic Council, stressing that the decision against Iran is contrary to the relevant laws and standards and was taken without consulting with the Iranian National Football Federation, which would have provided evidence to ensure that The occurrence of any security problem in the context of hosting clubs of other countries in Tehran.
The Iranian clubs participating in the AFC Champions League 2020 announced their withdrawal from the tournament in protest against the AFC's decision to host its matches on neutral ground outside Iran.
