Damien Lapilus, 31, is one of the best French MMA fighters. However, no one knows him. Damien Lapilus never fought in France. And for good reason, he had no right. Soon he can.
What is your reaction to the announcement by the sports ministry to place MMA under the aegis of the French boxing federation?
DAMIEN LAPILUS . It is the end of a long, very long process and now the beginning of a new phase. Finally, our sport will be recognized and respected. Thank you to the ministry for making things happen, that's it, we're there!
The choice of boxing suits you?
I heard people say that it sucks, it is not boxing that it was necessary to choose. I'm not saying that, on the contrary. We needed a solid, structured federation which is financially clear. This does not seem to be the case for all of them. Between MMA and boxing, there are many similarities. These are cousin sports so I think it's a good choice. Boxing will help us to structure ourselves.
Did you expect this decision?
Yes, but not so quickly. We were told about March, not January. But all the better, it has to move forward.
What will legalization change for you?
I will finally be able to fight at home, in front of my loved ones and my family rather than going abroad, on the other side of the world without anyone paying attention. It will change a lot of things.

When will you fight in France?
Very soon. In 2020 I think, but I do not yet know where, with which federation or within which framework.
Do you think MMA is going to be popular?
I don't think so, I'm sure of it. There is a great curiosity around my sport. Not only will it be popular but it will break the house.
