So in light of the current tragedy, we have decided to look back at some of the major sporting disasters that have befallen the star greats of the sports world.

Suffrage Disaster (Turin)

This is an air disaster that occurred on May 4, 1949 in Turin. A passenger plane in which coaches and managers of the Turin football team traveled from a friendly match in Portugal and several journalists who covered them crashed. Due to poor visibility conditions and thunderstorms, the plane collided with a Suffraga basilica located on the mountain and everyone present on the plane including crew members, 31 in number, were killed at the scene. Turin's soccer team was ranked first in the Serie A table.

The team composition at the time was one of the best in Italian football history - the team won four championships in a row, nicknamed "Gran Turin", the team had trouble recovering from the disaster, and its next championship achieved only about 30 years later, in the 1976/75 season. The disaster caused a shock in Italy and over a million people attended a funeral held in Turin. The shock was so great that a year later, in the 1950 World Cup in Brazil, the Italian team traveled by ship due to the national trauma of the disaster.

The Manchester United football team disaster

One of the largest and most recognized sports disasters occurred on February 6, 1958, in the city of Munich. Manchester United football players were on a British aircraft of BEA flight 609 which had difficulty taking off from the runway due to the accumulation of frozen snow on the runway. Twenty-one of the 44 passengers on the flight were killed as a direct result of the crash and two (Duncan Edwards and Frank Swift) later died. The killed were 8 team players and 3 of the team's professional staff. The team returned from the European Cup game in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, but their aircraft had to land in Munich to refuel what was supposed to be a direct flight from Belgrade to Manchester.

The pilots tried to take off twice after refueling, but had to stop due to engine problems. Captain Thane feared a delay in the schedule, rejected the possibility of staying overnight and decided to try to take off for the third time. By the time of the third takeoff attempt, it had already snowed, causing an accumulation of slash at the end of the runway. When the plane hit the slash it lost speed, making take-off impossible. The plane crashed out of orbit through a fence, and then one of its wings hit a nearby building and was torn down.

The official version is that he was rushed to hospital while alive and died there but many believe he died on the spot and was not pronounced dead just to prevent The cessation of the race and the economic damage that had been caused to the organizers as a result, as a rule it is not clear to the end how Sena was killed and arguments about it continue among his fans to this day.

Michael Schumacher

Even Ayrton Senna's successor, the legendary racing driver himself Michael Schumacher, was seriously injured and in a very serious medical condition. But while Cena was killed on the track, Schumacher met his fate on the ski track. Prior to his serious injury, he won a world title seven times, breaking almost every possible record in Formula 1. On December 29, 2013, he was severely injured in the head by a rock injury in a skiing accident, which occurred when he surfed at the Maribel Ski Resort near the Swiss border.
