Milan (AP) - AC Milan has rejected reports that the traditional Italian club is in negotiations with former Bundesliga coach Ralf Rangnick.

The message had no basis, said a club spokesman for the German Press Agency on Monday. Rangnick consultant Marc Kosicke was initially unavailable for comment on Monday evening. A few weeks ago, speculation about a Rangnick engagement at AC Milan had been denied by both sides.

The "Bild" newspaper had previously reported that the 61-year-old should become coach and sports director at the club from Serie A next season. The negotiations are "well advanced". However, the signature under the contract is still missing, the report said. Rangnick himself was initially unavailable for comment.

Rangnick had trained in Germany including Hannover 96, FC Schalke 04, TSG Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig as a temporary solution until the summer. Since July 1, he has been the Head of Sport and Development Soccer in an overarching role in the Red Bull football network.

Stefano Pioli has been training AC Milan since October last year. He had signed a contract for two years.
