Marvin Bertram had only started training again a few weeks ago. It was therefore amazing what performance he delivered at the Bavarian indoor championships.
Penzberg / Munich - At the Bavarian indoor championships in the Werner-von-Linde-Halle on the Munich Olympic site, the athletes of TSV Penzberg revealed what has not been a secret for a long time: they are top class in the Free State. The TSV athletes won a total of five medals. The highlight was Marvin Bertram winning the Bavarian title over 1500 meters. Penzberger Julia Rath, who is now starting for LAC Quelle Fürth, won two gold awards.

"Marvin Bertram hadn't really expected that," said Penzberg spokesman Markus Brennauer. After a protracted injury in autumn, the 18-year-old did not start training again until the end of December. So it came as a bit of a surprise that he won over 1,500 meters of gold and also met the norm for the German youth indoor championships. With 4: 09.97 minutes he prevailed ahead of Moritz King from MTV Ingolstadt (4: 12.41 minutes) and teammate Luk Jäger (4: 16.11). He undercut his best time from last year by two seconds.

Luk Jäger only ran a second past his best time over 3000 meters. The Penzberger showed “a good time” with 8: 57.76 minutes, according to Brennauer. He just had to let the favorite Paul Feuerer from LG Passau take the lead (8: 46.66). “The second kilometer was pretty tough. But on the last three laps I was able to increase the pace again, ”said a satisfied hunter.
Athletics: Nick Jäger runs an "indiscutable time" over 3000 meters
His older brother Nick Jäger, on the other hand, looked after the 3000-meter run "consternated and a bit helpless through the hall", said Brennauer. "I do not know what's going on. Somehow nothing went today, ”the student told his supervisors right after the race. That he had lost against top favorite Konstantin Wedel (LG Telis Finanz Regensburg / 8: 19.45 minutes) was not the problem. Rather, it was the “indiscutable time” of 8: 40.13 minutes according to Brennauer. The federal squad athlete hadn't run so slowly in four years. He had planned a time in the range of 8:20 to 8:25 minutes.
Athletics: Andreas Kölbl heals bronze over 400 meters in personal best time
Andreas Kölbl was significantly more satisfied with his appearance in the Munich Olympic Park. The 25-year-old Sindelsdorfer won bronze over 400 meters and, with 50.96 seconds, was again 0.21 seconds below his best time, which he had set up only seven days earlier. "For the fact that I had to run one on the narrow lane, I'm really surprised to have been able to improve again." In the final he only had to face Creve Armando Machava (TS Herzogenaurach / 48.38 seconds) and Vincente Graiani (LG Stadtwerke München / 48.60) give up.
Athletics: Intermediate sprint Colin Klein over 800 meters "probably cost the medal"
Colin Klein, however, had to let three competitors go away. With his fourth place over 800 meters (2: 10.28 minutes) in the U18 age group, he was “not unhappy” according to Brennauer. He would have had to run three seconds faster for the bronze medal. “Unfortunately, the second lap of Colin was much too fast with 30 seconds. This intermediate sprint probably cost him the medal, ”said trainer Conny Lechner-Brennauer.
Athletics: Julia Rath wins gold twice for the LAC Quelle Fürth
Julia Rath was spot on, winning the title in the U18 age group in an exciting 800-meter race with 2: 12.57 minutes. From the start, the 15-year-old had taken the lead in the field "and ensured a very high pace," said Brennauer. Nevertheless, Nele Göhl (LG Eckental) always kept close on her heels. “I knew that Nele was stronger than me in the final sprint. So I had to walk them tired, ”Rath explained their tactics. Göhl actually got a little closer on the home stretch, but she was eventually left behind (2: 13.07). Rath won her second title much less spectacular: she ran 4: 40.88 minutes over 1500 meters. This gave her a ten second lead over the pursuers.
