"Many clubs in Spain, England and France are already doing this, and if the big clubs start, the small ones will surely follow suit." said Siggi Dietrich, manager of the 1st FFC Frankfurt and chairman of the newly created women's Bundesliga committee at the DFB. His club has been playing under the Eintracht Frankfurt umbrella since summer. The women will start the 2020 soccer year on February 14 with the top game between second-placed TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and defending champion VfL Wolfsburg.
"I think that in the long term it will happen that significantly more professional clubs will also have a women's department," said international player Sara Däbritz from Paris Saint-Germain of the German Press Agency. "I think that's good for two reasons. On the one hand, this could result in a lot of cool pairings like Bayern against Dortmund or even derbies like Schalke against Dortmund. There would certainly be a lot of spectators. On the other hand, I now have three in Freiburg, Munich and Paris played such clubs and had very good experiences. "
The example of Frankfurt should have a signal effect in the country of the women's Olympic champion, Dietrich spoke of a "real mood of optimism". Däbritz sees a huge audience potential at a men's club: "The ultras of the men are regularly in our games and create the right atmosphere. We last played against Marseille in front of 3500 spectators and the atmosphere over 90 minutes was great." In the Bundesliga, however, the average number of visitors is still just under 1,000 fans.
