Reggio Emilia (dpa) - Sebastian Vettel can hardly wait for the start of the new Formula 1 season.

"The batteries are charged again, I'm completely ready, the team is ready, we all feel ready," said the four-time world champion in a Ferrari video of the launch of his new company car. With the SF1000, the 32-year-old wants to become world champion with the Italians for the first time in his sixth Scuderia season. The name of the car points to the 1000th Ferrari Grand Prix this year.

"I am very confident," said Ferrari President Louis Camilleri at the Romolo Valli Theater in Reggio Emilia. "I think Mattia (Binotto) and his team are doing a great job." After six driver and designer titles in series for Mercedes, Ferrari finally wants to overthrow the industry leader this year.

According to Binotto, the Italians have dared to do a lot with the design of the new car. "A lot of concepts on the car are very extreme," said the Swiss despite the external similarity to the previous model SF90. Above all, the engineers worked on making the car generate more downforce. This should make the car lie better in the corners. In 2019, this was the weak point of Vettel and Charles Leclerc's car.

The German should benefit from the fact that the rear was made more compact after criticizing it as too restless last year. Vettel described the SF1000 as a "step forward". The first tests will begin in Barcelona on February 19.
