Olympique Lyonnais faced Racing Club de Strasbourg this Sunday at Groupama Stadium as part of the French Championship. The Gones wanted to lend their support to China, hard hit by the coronavirus epidemic. The country has already counted nearly 1,700 victims of the virus and reported Sunday 68,000 cases of contamination.
Rudi Garcia's players came out of the locker room to go to the warm-up wearing a t-shirt. On it was written a message of solidarity in Chinese. Several other European clubs, such as Real Madrid and FC Barcelona in particular, have carried out actions of this type since the crisis hit the country.
OL's second largest shareholder is Chinese
Lyon has forged in recent years special links with China since the club's second shareholder is Chinese. IDG European Sports investment has held 19.9% of the capital of the French club since 2017. A marriage which allows Jean-Michel Aulas, president of OL to have very great ambitions since with the support of this shareholder, the manager plans to generate 400 million euros in turnover by 2024.
