Can Tottenham do it again?

2020-02-17T15:39:53.210Z

Weakened by the absence of Harry Kane, Tottenham hopes to get rid of Leipzig in the round of 16 of C1, this Tuesday, and dreams of doing as well as the final against Liverpool (0-2) last year.

Finalist of the last edition, Tottenham has had a start to the 2019-2020 fiscal year in a sawtooth fashion. Fifth in the Premier League, the London club finished second in its Champions League group behind Bayern Munich and faced Leipzig on Wednesday for a place in the quarterfinals. Will the Spurs be able to match last year's course?

+ José Mourinho's experience

I think the group leaders don't want to play against us. We are one of the strongest second, “said the Portuguese coach after the defeat against Bayern (1-3). Accustomed to this kind of statement and high-stakes matches, the Spurs technician remains an asset for the London club with a view to conquering a first European title. Already a C1 winner twice with Porto (2004) and Inter Milan (2010), the Special One can once again create a surprise.

+ The return of Hugo Lloris

After being seriously injured in the elbow on October 5, the Spurs captain is back. Since resuming his place in his cage, the French have known no defeat so far. The 2018 World Champion, already decisive in the Champions League last season, remains an undeniable asset for José Mourinho.

+ An interesting recruitment…

Unlike last year, Tottenham has a more complete workforce. With the arrivals of Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso this summer and more recently those of Seven Bergwijn and Gedson Fernandes, the Spurs have grown stronger and have a team capable of playing on various tables.

-… but significant injuries

Despite his recruits, Tottenham is struck by the long absence of Moussa Sissoko, operated on a knee last January and especially that of Harry Kane, seriously affected in the ischiosis. Without his goalscorer, Tottenham is less effective offensively. José Mourinho hopes the Englishman will return for the last two days of the Premier League. It would therefore only be suitable in the event of qualification for the C1 final.

- A lack of regularity

With already 8 losses and 11 draws in 26 Premier League games, Tottenham remains irregular this season and does not really show confidence in the content of the matches, even when the result is positive. The state of form could lead to the Spurs LdC course.

- Ineffectiveness against fat

This season, the big problem for the London club is its lack of efficiency against the top teams. If the men of Mourinho managed to win against Manchester City (2-0), they have no other victory against the teams of the Top 5. In the Champions League, the Spurs remain on two losses against Bayern, 1- 3 at the Allianz Arena, and a 2-7 suitcase in London.
