Iker Casillas , 38, is running for the presidency of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). The goalkeeper announced it on Twitter and ended the uncertainty of the last weeks. The still porter of Porto will face the current president Luis Rubiales, who has been in office since May 2018.

Together we will put our Federation at the height of the best football in the world: that of Spain. # IkerCasillas2020", announced Casillas, who had already explained his decision to the president of Porto, club to which he still belongs.

After an intervention and several days hospitalized, the player recovered satisfactorily. The former Real Madrid goalkeeper arrived in Porto in the summer of 2015 after a lifetime in the white team. His last renewal dates from March 2019, just two months before his heart failure. Casillas has not yet announced his retirement from football officially.
Once he has run for president of the federation, the dates of the elections are still unknown. Initially, when the end of this federal legislature coincides with the Olympic year, it should be held in the second half. However, Luis Rubiales, current defensive president, has requested the electoral advance of the Higher Sports Council, which must decide shortly if it is granted.
