Scheduled for March 1, the Tokyo Marathon will welcome only 200 professional runners. According to information from the Japanese newspaper Tokyo Shimbun , the organizers of the competition chose not to open it to the general public because of the epidemic of coronavirus which has already claimed the lives of more than 1,700 in mainland China. This decision should therefore prevent 38,000 amateur runners from participating in this 14th edition of the Japanese capital marathon.
