Berlin (dpa) - The 18 clubs in the Bundesliga have generated sales of more than four billion euros for the first time in the 2018/2019 season.

A total of 4.02 billion euros were raised, the German Football League announced on 18 February when it published its own economic report. This is a record for the 15th time in a row and an increase of 5.4 percent compared to the previous season. The previous day, the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" reported on the report.

"In the past few years, we have developed German professional football together with our partners into a very successful industry," said DFL boss Christian Seifert. "In the meantime, the Bundesliga and the 2. Bundesliga have a total of reliable economic stability. In the future, further growth prospects will arise primarily from digital innovations and in the international arena."

At almost 1.5 billion euros, income from media marketing accounts for almost 37 percent of the total, while revenue from other areas fell slightly. The proceeds from tickets and the business in the stadiums amounted to 520 million euros, 845 million euros with advertising, 176 million euros with the sale of fan articles. With almost 43,000 tickets sold per game, the Bundesliga is the league with the most viewers worldwide.

14 of the 18 clubs posted a positive result after taxes. Expenditures rose slightly to 3.9 billion euros, of which personnel costs for players and coaches were the largest share with more than 1.4 billion euros. They rose by 8.6 percent. Liabilities fell five percent to EUR 1.5 billion. The 2nd Bundesliga recorded a turnover of 782 million euros and thus a strong increase of 28.5 percent.
