Dortmund (dpa) - DFB director Oliver Bierhoff also hopes for the home advantage in the difficult group games of the German national team against world champion France and defending champion Portugal at the European football championship in summer.
"The Munich factor will play a role," said Bierhoff during a media talk by the Directorate for National Team and Academy in Dortmund. For the heavily rejuvenated DFB team, it was "rather positive that we are playing in Munich," said Bierhoff, who predicted: "There will be a real bang."
The draw for the difficult group phase triggered a "have eight position" in the association and among the players, said Bierhoff: "You know there is no easy start, but it goes directly from 0 to 100." The 51-year-old also regards this knowledge as good for the preparation for the tournament, which national coach Joachim Löw is expected to start on May 26 in Seefeld in Tirol.
The DFB selection went two years after the historic preliminary round knockout at the World Cup in Russia "not as a favorite" in the European Championship finals from June 12 to July 12. Nevertheless, a German national team must always go into a tournament with the goal of wanting "the greatest", ie the title. At the Pan European Championship, the DFB team will play the group games against France, Portugal and a playoff opponent to be determined in the Munich arena.
