Berlin (dpa) - In the fight against racism in football stadiums, Eintracht Frankfurt's sports director Fredi Bobic considers game abandonment to be the ultimate means.
"If necessary, if something happens, a game has to stop or be stopped completely. Then it is the right sign," said the 48-year-old on the sidelines of the Laureus sports awards, which were awarded on Monday evening in Berlin.
A termination had to be weighed, Bobic warned. "If one or two people take a stupid action, why should the other 60,000 pay for it. You have to pick those two out," said the former striker. You can't look into every head. "If there are isolated cases, we have to find them, put them out of the stadiums," said Bobic.
Most recently, there were racial derailments of some fans against Hertha professional Jordan Torunarigha in the DFB Cup on Schalke. At a third division game in Münster, spectators had responded with "Nazis out" calls to the insults of a 29-year-old man against the Würzburg Leroy Kwadwo. In addition, they ensured that the suspect who had left his place was found and identified.
At a league match in Portugal, Moussa Marega, 28 years old from Mali, left the pitch on Sunday after scoring for FC Porto due to racist insults from the public. According to Bobic, racism is only a problem in the stands, not within the teams. "We do a lot in football. The teams deal very well with each other, there are no incidents at all. It doesn't matter what skin color they have, what belief they have," said Bobic.
