Formula 1 tests in Barcelona. For Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel there was bad news again.
Barcelona (dpa) - Sebastian Vettel has suffered the next setback in the first Formula 1 tests this season.
The four-time world champion had to park his Ferrari on the last test day about an hour and a half after the track opened on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya due to an engine problem. The session was temporarily interrupted, Vettel himself climbed out of his SF1000 at turn twelve.
The Ferrari was transported for inspection by a tow truck. The exact reason for the problems is being investigated, according to the Scuderia at the headquarters in Maranello. In the afternoon, Vettel got back into his car after an engine change and did a total of 100 laps. The 32-year-old only finished 13th in the timesheet.
Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas could not be caught (1: 15.732 minutes). Second behind the Finn was his British team-mate Lewis Hamilton (+0.784 seconds). The world champion racing team made a strong impression at the start.
The first tests before the new season had already started unhappily for Vettel. The Hesse ceded Wednesday to his stable rival Charles Leclerc as a training day because of malaise. The Ferrari drivers then split up on Thursday. The last tests will be held in Catalonia from February 26th to 28th.
