Freiburg (AP) - Fortuna Dusseldorf won under coach Uwe Rösler for the first time in the Bundesliga and thus scored important points in the relegation battle. After five league games without a win, Fortuna prevailed 2-0 (1-0) at SC Freiburg.
Andre Hoffmann (37th minute) and Erik Thommy (61th) scored the goals for the table 16th, who is now three points ahead of a direct relegation zone. The goal of 2-0 was outnumbered because Freiburg's Nicolas Höfler was in the cabin in the meantime - apparently because he had to go to the bathroom.
The Freiburgers generally had a used afternoon in front of 24,000 spectators in the Black Forest Stadium and once again did not find their strengths against a relegation candidate.
Remarkable things only happened before the game. Fans of the SC had vocalized "Nazis out" calls during the minute of commemoration of the victims of the Hanau violence. Fortuna Düsseldorf supporters also joined the choruses shortly afterwards. In addition, there was a large banner in front of the Freiburg fan block with the inscription "Racism Kills! Everyone (s) against Racism!" to see.
Unlike their fans, the professionals at SC Freiburg hardly noticed afterwards. Again Streich's team had a surprisingly difficult time against a relegation candidate, made technical mistakes in the game structure, and hardly scored any chances against disciplined defending Düsseldorf. The leadership of the guests before the break was therefore deserved.
After a beautiful cross from Kevin Stöger, Hoffmann prevailed in the header duel with Janik Haberer and drove the ball into the goal from a short distance. It was the defender's first Bundesliga goal in almost seven years. Before that, the 26-year-old had last scored on April 26, 2013 for his former club Hannover 96 in the Bundesliga.
Streich reacted to his team's weak performance by replacing his striker Nils Petersen at half-time. But this change also did nothing because something strange happened: SC midfielder Höfler sprinted to the side and then into the cabin just 20 minutes after the restart. Höfler apparently had to go to the bathroom, and it was precisely in this outnumbered phase that Fortuna struck again.
After the ball was captured by the guests, Thommy sprinted almost across the entire field and then stayed cool in a duel with SC goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow. A few seconds after 2-0, Höfler also came back from the cabin, but could not prevent the defeat.
