Leon Goretzka is at FC Bayern's final training before the start of the knockout round of the Champions League. However, only the first 15 minutes were free for observers. Board boss Karl-Heinz Rummenigge calls for maximum concentration at Chelsea FC.
Munich (dpa) - Birthday child Hansi Flick serenaded FC Bayern's final training before the first knockout round first leg in the Champions League at Chelsea.
The Munich professionals congratulated their trainer on Monday on their 55th birthday with a "Happy Birthday". A suitable present for Flick on Tuesday (9:00 p.m.) in London would be a result that paves the way to the quarter-finals.
"A good result would be that we score a goal," said Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, also referring to the round of 16 last season. Back then, the Munich team had won 0-0 in the first leg at the eventual title holder FC Liverpool, but lost 1-3 in the second leg.
"There will be two interesting, important games where you have to play football with high concentration and seriousness," said Rummenigge before leaving for England. "We have to see that we can get through to Chelsea, which is a tough draw, and reach the quarter-finals."
Rummenigge also warned not to underestimate the "interesting team with a coach who is quite young in business". "We will try to continue our journey this year, but I also warn against starting dreaming now," he said before the duel with Frank Lampard's team.
National player Leon Goretzka, who was absent on Friday against SC Paderborn (3-2) due to muscular problems, was present at Bayern's final training session. However, only the first 15 minutes of the session in Munich were open to observers. Flick only flies to London with his team in the afternoon.
The long-time assistant to national coach Joachim Löw once again received praise for his work from Rummenigge. "He did very well," said the Munich CEO. "We have had a very successful time since November." FC Bayern is still represented in all three competitions. "So you can be totally satisfied with the work he has done so far." Of course, FC Bayern have "great international standards", so moving into the quarter-finals is the clear goal.
