EA Schongau keeps the belief in direct relegation alive. The “Mammuts” also won against Schweinfurt.
Schongau - Who would have thought that? The EA Schongau can actually make the direct relegation in the ice hockey Bayernliga from their own hands. After the convincing 6-1 win on Friday against Geretsried, the “Mammuts” followed up in Schweinfurt on Sunday. After penalty shootout, EAS won 3-2 and is now only one point behind fifth place in the relegation round, which means the direct relegation. The ESC Dorfen currently ranks there, but has already completed one game more than Schongau.
The game between Schweinfurt and Schongau also meant the basement duel of the relegation round. Only one victory helped both teams in the fight for the league. The first third of the game was correspondingly intense. "It was a very competitive game," said EAS team manager Martin Resch. But that also had negative consequences: "We received too many penalty minutes," said Resch. With one more player on the field, the hosts went 1-0 up through Lucas Kleider (10th).
Schongau is building up more and more pressure
However, the EAS found the right answer. Simon Fend (13th) brought his team back into play. In the same minute, however, the "Mighty Dogs" scored the new lead. Again they used a power play. The scorer for 2-1 was Jeffrey Murray. After Tobias Dressel was given a long term penalty after a check against the knee, the Schongauer acted more disciplined.
As a result, they became stronger and had significantly more of the game. "Unfortunately, we lacked the last concentration in the goal," reported Resch. The "Mammuts" had a few chances to level the game again. In the final third, the second Schongau goal was not long in coming. Jakub Muzik (43.) redeemed the EAS and scored to 2: 2. The "mammoths" remained on the trigger. "We dominated the game," said the team manager.
The decision is made only in the penalty shootout
But it was no longer enough for the winning goal in regular season. And the five-minute extension was also without further goal celebration. The additional point was awarded in the penalty shootout. Murray and Jeffrey met Szwez first. Then it was reserved for Ronald Dvonc to score the winning goal and keep the hope of relegation alive.
The EC Peiting is also still on the wave of success and won 6-3 in Deggendorf.
