RC Lens separates from its coach. The third in Ligue 2 announced this Tuesday in a press release posted on its site to have "decided to suspend activity Philippe Montanier and part of its technical staff today" The announcement comes three days after a heavy defeat of the Artesians at home (1-4) against Caen.
Arrived at the head of the Lensois workforce in the summer of 2018, the former coach of Valenciennes, Real Sociedad or Rennes had led his group through play-offs and until the gates of Ligue 1. The Lensois had ended up s bow in a double confrontation against Dijon which had saved its skin in the elite.
A single match won in 2020
This season, the Artesiens had experienced a premature elimination in the eighth round of the Coupe de France against the Dieppe fans (National 3). In 2020, RC Lens won only one of its seven games. A pace deemed far too insufficient for a candidate for the rise in the elite. Pending the arrival of a new coach, the reserve coach Franck Haise will be responsible for the professional group.
Lens, who outstrips Troyes on goal difference, moves to Paris FC on March 2 for the 27th day of Ligue 2.
