Christiane Ernst competed for the first time in the Bavarian Seniors' Table Tennis Championship. And the Weilheimer showed her skills - and went home with two medals.

Weilheim - In the league, table tennis player Christiane Ernst is doing quite well. The Weilheimer ranks with TSV Schwabhausen III in the Regionalliga Süd in the middle of the table. With a record of 12: 8 victories, she is among the top 20 players in the fourth highest German division. But Ernst also knows how to convince as a tournament player. In her first appearance at the Bavarian Senior Championship, she won two medals for women aged 40 and over. In Ochsenfurt (Lower Franconia) she won one gold and one bronze.

The title was won by Ernst (40) in a double, which she contested together with Middle Franconia Claudia Trummer (1. FC Eschenau). After a walk-through it went against Andrea Ott (RV Wombach) and Daniela Staschko (TSV Ottbrunn) in the semifinals. The first two sentences were lost (8:11, 10:12), so Ernst and Trummer were under pressure. But the duo kept their nerve, won the following sets (11: 8, 11: 9, 11: 9) and entered the final.

Table tennis: Ernst / Trummer win in the final in five sets

In the final, Ernst / Trummer faced the big favorites. Sabine Neldner (ESV Freimann) and Sylvia Messer (SpVgg Greuther Fürth) had won the Bavarian championship last year and won silver at the Senior European Championship in Budapest. The top teams promptly delivered a duel befitting their status, which went over five sets. In the end, Ernst and Trummer prevailed after hard-fought rounds with 11: 9, 6:11, 11: 5, 7:11, and 11: 9.

The Weilheim native started the three-day tournament in the mixed competition. There she competed alongside Markus Hummel (TTSC Kümmersbruck). As the top-placed duo, they had a walk-through. The quarter-finals were surprisingly the end of the line. Ernst and Hummel, who had never played together, lost 0: 3 (6:11, 10:12, 9:11). "The vote was missing," said the Weilheimer.

Table tennis: Ernst makes it to the semi-finals with ease

The next day, a lot of patience was required from Ernst. It was not until after 6 p.m. that it was her turn for the first time in the preliminary round. With a 3: 0 against Simone Amthor (SB Versbach) and a 3: 2 against Barbara Seiler (TTC Langweid), she confidently qualified for the main round. Ernst - as a regional league player - was number one there.

The quarter-final against Sylvia Messer (Greuther Fürth) won the Weilheimer 3: 0 (11: 2, 11: 5, 11: 2) without major problems, not least because of a “concentrated performance”. In the semifinals, Ernst had a tough match with Simone Neuner (TTC Langweid) for four sets. Ernst pulled the short of 1: 3 (12:14, 13:11, 3:11, 7:11) against the eventual tournament winner. After all, she had won bronze. I am very happy with third place, ”said the Weilheim native. At the same time, he had seriously qualified for the German Senior Championship, which will take place in Dillingen / Donau from May 1st to 3rd.
