The corona virus now also paralyzes the team World Cup in table tennis in South Korea. An alternative date in summer is in prospect.
Busan (dpa) - After the spread of the new type of corona virus, the world table tennis association ITTF postponed the team World Cup scheduled for late March in South Korea. The tournament was supposed to take place from March 22nd to 29th in the port city of Busan.
Now the ITTF wants to "monitor the situation" in the coming weeks and then decide whether the World Championships can possibly take place on a specially reserved alternative date between June 21 and 28. "The health and safety of players, officials and fans is a top priority," said an ITTF statement.
The first cases of the novel corona virus were confirmed in Busan last Friday. The international association then held an "emergency meeting" at the weekend with representatives of the city and the South Korean association KTTA.
