Kaiserslautern (dpa) - traditional club 1. FC Kaiserslautern has submitted the licensing documents for the coming season - for the 3rd league and for the 2nd Bundesliga, the Palatinate announced.

However, there is still a "funding gap" of around eleven million euros in the plans. This amount was necessary "to ensure liquidity by June 30, 2021," said Managing Director Soeren Oliver Voigt. In order to close this, extensive measures have been taken since December.

The admission documents had to be submitted to the German Football Association by March 1st. After that, the Palatinate have until May to raise the missing funds. The reason for the immense sum is the again high license gaming budget of more than five million euros. "This gives us the opportunity to compete in the 3rd division," explained Voigt. The missing millions are said to be provided by investors. "I am confident that we will achieve our goals and receive the license," said the managing director.
