The creme de la creme of the international young slalom guests is a guest in Bad Wiessee at the weekend: the slalom European Cup takes place under floodlights at Sonnenbichl.

Bad Wiessee - When it gets dark in the district at the weekend, the tension increases at Sonnenbichl: Tomorrow Saturday and Sunday, March 1st, the young alpine elite will compete in the women's slalom European Cup in Bad Wiessee. Also on board: four specialists from the Oberland Ski Association (SVO).

But Franziska Berger, Lara Klein (both SC Lenggries), Carolin Lippert and Sophia Zitzmann (both SC Gaißach) are facing tough competition in the night slalom at Sonnenbichl. Over 90 starters from 20 nations are expected, including World Cup-proven drivers such as Lena Dürr, Jessica Hilzinger and Marina Wallner.

The focus of the sixth edition of the European Cup at Sonnenbichl is clearly on youngsters. Because at these events, the top talents gain experience in international comparison, which could benefit them later in their careers. And who knows, maybe an upcoming world champion or Olympic champion will wind its way through the Stangenwald near the Tegernsee at the weekend.

Viktoria Rebensburg comes to the award ceremony

The atmosphere should be special again. After all, the slalom riders have the perfect view of Lake Tegernsee - and later on the illuminated lake landscape. And the spectators can look forward to skiers around 60 kilometers an hour, who jet down the slopes under floodlights. “It's a bit like a family reunion. There are many familiar faces, but also new faces, ”says Stephanie Sennhofer, Marketing Manager at Sonnenbichl.

Unfortunately Viktoria Rebensburg (Kreuth) and Marlene Schmotz (Fischbachau) cannot participate in the European Cup this year. The two World Cup starters from the district are known to have injured their knees and will probably be out for the rest of the season. Rebensburg will be there on Saturday and will also take part in the award ceremony. Patron of the European Cup 2020 is Christa Kinshofer. Also in Bad Wiessee is the winner of the 1985 World Cup slalom at Sonnenbichl, Marc Giradelli.
