The Erdinger football merger: postponed or already buried quietly?

Flash weddings are only for Las Vegas. A football merger shouldn't be a matter of luck, says Dieter Priglmeir in his sports whisper for the weekend and asks for it: Do your homework. Then there is hope.

Flash weddings are only for Las Vegas. A football merger shouldn't be a matter of luck, says Dieter Priglmeir in his sports whisper for the weekend and asks for it: Do your homework. Then there is hope.

The carnival this year was so poor that he couldn't even afford a begging wedding. The soccer merger between SpVgg Altenerding and FC Erding was canceled. And that was the right decision - at least for the moment. Because in the current situation that would have actually been more poor people feeding than splendid wedding.

Youth work at the FCE is in ruins - apart from the strong small field area. In addition, the Erdinger had to completely rebuild their relegation-threatened Kreisliga team again during the winter break. The SpVgg in turn has the most successful youth work in the district. But the association is not as stable as the violets look to the outside. Even soccer director Andreas Heilmaier admits that. He would love to keep an A-youth completely in the club. But higher-class clubs use the Altenerdinger talent pool no less. And Heilmaier can't even be angry with the competition. In the meantime, the SpVgg tries to turn the ratio of "80 percent foreign and 20 percent own players" to the contrary - but for years he brought the best kickers from the area into the SpVgg youth, where they were trained for years. And then? Just comes the A-Class. Then should those kick that once left their home club to play in the youth BOL?

As I said, the bride and groom were a little undamaged for marriage. Magnificent wedding bouquet? Dandelion. Since you attract no spectators and certainly no sponsors. So: back to the beginning! Dress up, increase dowry - and above all: do your homework!

Because the merger failed less because of the somewhat battered suit, but because of a big problem: the merger is only possible by founding a new club. Both traditional clubs, the largest in the district by the way, would lose their football department. The SpVgg without footballers - that is difficult to imagine. And certainly not in the year in which the club celebrates its 100th anniversary. At TSV Erding that seems even more conceivable, because there has been the unofficial structure called FCE for years (since the merger with the SC footballers). And according to Köppen, the members of this cooperation are rather neutral. Maybe it doesn't matter to them now. But that's a nasty assumption now. Let's stay optimistic:

The idea of pooling strength is good, everything just happened too quickly. Lightning marriages are something for Las Vegas: it's pure gambling that rarely works. Both department heads emphasized that the merger was not canceled, but rather postponed. It will now be shown whether they just wanted to bury the project quietly or whether they really want to convince the members with concepts.

Creating visionary things - and nothing less - and mastering everyday life at the same time is going to be brutally difficult. The SpVgg has to get out of the A-Class. And the FCE has to hope for its young footballers that the JFG Sempt Erding will resume, which it has failed in the past few years and which it now only sees as a stage partner. It is at least questionable whether the old love for the youth lifts the covers again.

All of this is difficult, but not impossible. In addition to time, you also need people who support Heilmaier and Köppen (which they definitely deserve). People like Sebastian Held and Markus Listl, who have worked in the district for years, know every footballer and would be free at the latest from the new season. Or the former professional Philipp Bönig, who looks far outside the box. And that would cover the sporting area to some extent. Experienced political and economic experts (Erdinger Weißbräu, Therme, Amadeus?) Are at least as important. Only when this triad of sports knowledge, influence and financial possibilities is right, do the wedding bells sound good. And the 40,000-inhabitant city - by then there will be so many - would have the football it deserves.
