MLS: Victorious debut for Henry with the Montreal Impact

2020-03-01T08:45:09.583Z

Thierry Henry had a successful coaching debut in MLS on Saturday, his Montreal team reversing a compromised situation and finally winning 2-1 at home against New England at the start of the championship.

Three days after a hard-won qualification for the quarterfinals of the Concacaf Champions League, at the expense of the Costa Rican club Deportivo Saprissa (0-0, 2-2 outward), the Impact has still found the resources necessary for this time to clinch its very first victory of the season. Argentine striker Maximiliano Urruti scored the victory goal in the 80th minute after being behind Honduran winger Romell Quioto in the 37th. Teal Bunbury opened the scoring for New England in the 13th minute.

C1 Concacaf first leg, March 10

Forced to quickly run after the score, the Impact, who had mostly gone against in their first two outings against Saprissa, managed to take control of the ball and the match. But it was a goal denied after intervention of the VAR and an opposing shot repelled by a post, for the final result to be less happy. Whatever, for Henry and his men, it's the good dynamics that count. Their next meeting will take place on March 7 in Dallas for the second day of the championship, before their quarter-final first leg of the C1 Concacaf, scheduled for March 10 at home against another representative of Costa Rica, Olimpia. Two meetings that will better judge the start of the season for the former Blues striker, who is trying to relaunch his role as coach, after a first experience in the form of failure in Monaco where he only stayed than three months in post between late 2018 and early 2019.
