Still heavy for the Blues?
In 2018, the French team had inherited from Germany and the Netherlands as opponents of the first edition of the League of Nations. Poured into hat 2 of the draw, the world champions could still fall on the Nationalmannschaft and the Oranje this year but also Portugal, their future opponent in the group stage at Euro 2020 (with Germany). A group made up of Switzerland, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iceland would obviously be much more affordable for Didier Deschamps' men.

What influence on qualifications for the 2022 World Cup?
The ten group winners from the European Cup World Cup qualifiers will advance directly to the finals in Qatar. The play-off format has however evolved and will now consist of two knockout rounds from which three teams will qualify. It will involve the tenth second in the group as well as the two best group winners in the League of Nations who have not directly qualified or have not reached the play-offs.

League of Nations: instructions
Fifty-five nations are divided into four Leagues, divisions of similar level. From A, the best League, to D, the weakest. In each League there are several groups (four in League A, B, C, two in League D), whose teams compete in round-trip matches between September and November 2020.
The last of each group in League A and B is relegated to the lower division for the next edition (2022-23); the first of each group in League B, C and D is promoted to the upper echelon. The winners of the first division group (League A) will compete for the honorary trophy during a final phase (semi-final, match for 3rd place and final) scheduled for June 2021.
The last four of the Ligue C group will, in principle, compete in a round-trip jump-off in March 2022, the two losers from these jump-offs being relegated to Ligue D.
