The volleyball season ended prematurely, handball and basketball players take a break. The football association has also pulled the ripcord: the coronavirus pandemic brings sport to a standstill.

District - Nothing works anymore: The current development of the Corona location has brought the entire league sports business in the Freising district - from football to volleyball - to a standstill. The way forward is in the stars for many sports. Since Friday it has also been certain that the Merkur CUP will not take place.

Soccer

The State League games of VfB Hallbergmoos and SE Freising had already been canceled due to Corona cases or suspected cases at the opposing clubs - now the Bavarian Football Association (BFV) has completely pulled the ripcord: The BFV "sets as a precautionary measure regarding the further increasing number of Corona infected and the dynamic situation development the complete game operation for at least two weeks up to and including March 23 in the entire Free State ”. For the time being, two Landesliga matchdays and the opening weekend of the District League North after the winter break are affected. The district league soccer players of TSV Eching as well as the A and B juniors of SE Freising - both kicking in the district league - have to pause.

"The only right step"

Without knowing or even being able to estimate how the situation will develop, the BFV reports that it is planned to make up for the games that have now been canceled in the amateur classes. "Due to the fact that there are now the first positively tested players and also infected people from the close surroundings of amateur teams, and with this the uncertainty among many club representatives is great, it was the only right step to completely suspend the amateur game operation now" , explains BFV President Rainer Koch. “Last but not least, given the fact that Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder made it clear that all events with more than 100 participants must be canceled, and at the same time strongly advises against holding meetings with less than 100 people, the decision is essential. "

The BFV also urgently advises a total of around 4600 clubs to discontinue training until further notice : "We cannot prohibit it, but we appeal to the reasonable sense of those responsible in the clubs to do everything in this situation, which is not easy for our country to turn this situation together for the better, ”explains Koch. "It would be difficult to understand if schools and kindergartens in Bavaria are closed, but the training would continue in the club."

Mercury CUP

There is also bad news for a total of 30 e-youth teams from the Freising district, who wanted to start this year at the world's largest football tournament in this age group: the 26th edition of the Merkur CUP will not take place. "After Prime Minister Markus Söder announced on Friday that the alternative school closings would start on Monday and the Bavarian Football Association had canceled all game operations in the Free State up to and including March 23, we decided to cover the entire Merkur CUP 2020 and therefore also for the Canceled the planned kickoff event in the Sportalm of SpVgg Unterhaching on March 24, ”said Merkur CUP general manager Uwe Vaders.

The reason is clear. Vaders: “A total of 6,000 children played in the tournament. It is backed by 12,000 mothers and fathers and again twice the number of grandmas and grandpas - many people, including older people, who are particularly at risk at the moment. ”Implementing the Merkur CUP involves a high risk of infection, which is too great a health risk. "We cannot close our eyes to what has been causing concern among the population for weeks."

In addition, Vaders emphasizes: "We will not play the CUP late if the association should start playing again before the summer break." That would only lead to a large deadline.

Volleyball: Force Majeure and Policy Recommendations

The Bavarian Volleyball Association (BVV) declared that all game play had ended this Thursday late in the afternoon. The BVV has not yet decided which promotion and relegation regulations will exist.

The department of SC Freising has five adult and numerous youth teams in play and in the district of Freising the most volleyball players. SCF division chief Dejan Jankovic had hoped on Wednesday that at least the regional league team as well as the second men's team (district league) and the second women's team (district league) could conclude the season with their last point games on Saturday. "We had organized a small season closing party for the three teams on Saturday evening," said Jankovic. The Freising would have loved to celebrate the championship of women II in the district league.

The WhatsApp groups ran hot on Thursday evening, says Jankovic. Everyone wanted to know what is going to happen now. The SCF volleyball players may now want to use this Saturday to meet in the hall, do some sport for themselves and then end the points round with a small celebration.

End of game operations "for the common good"

The German Volleyball Association (DVV) had prematurely ended the season from the Bundesliga down to the regional league on Thursday. DVV President René Hecht justified this as follows: "We are currently in a situation in which we had to make a decision due to force majeure and political recommendations." Therefore, it was agreed "for the good of the general public" to stop playing . "We are convinced that this is the only right decision in the current phase, also to protect all players, coaches, coaches and referees as well as their families and friends."

The BVV then followed suit and ended the 2019/20 season. Jankovic shows complete understanding for the decision - and is even happy: Because SV Haimhausen, originally opponent of the second SC women's team on Saturday afternoon, had made a tricky request to the sports club. The Haimhausen native asked the SCF to let two of their players, who had just returned from their South Tyrol vacation, play along. The explosive thing about it: In this game the decision for the championship in the district league would probably have been made. "I am very happy that we did not have to make this decision now," Jankovic admitted. The association has not yet made a decision on the promotion and relegation regulations. In the Freising district there are, in addition to the sports club, the departments of SG Moosburg, TSV Neufahrn and VfB Hallbergmoos, but only the third men's team and the second women's team of SC Freising are affected. The girls now occupy first place in the Kreisliga 2 and would have risen. Men III ended the season a week ago, occupy the penultimate place in the table in District Class 1 and would have to play relegation matches on the last weekend in April. "So there would be losers and winners with us," says Jankovic. He can well imagine that there will be no promoters or relegations this year. Maybe that's the best thing.

In the volleyball scene, it is now interesting to see how it will continue, to what extent the training will also be affected in the next few weeks. It must be expected that the municipalities or, as in the case of TSV Neufahrn, the club itself will have to block the halls for training, especially since the schools will also close next Monday. "We are currently in an exceptional situation," emphasizes Jankovic. “This affects not only the world of work, but also sport. Above all, we have to remain calm and relaxed. "

Basketball: "We don't know what to do next"

In contrast, the Bavarian Basketball Association (BBV) has so far only interrupted the ongoing game operations. "We therefore do not know what will happen next," says Michael Buhl, head of TSV Jahn Freising and head coach of the Bayernliga team. As the situation became increasingly acute during the week, the association's decision came as no surprise to him.

Already on Wednesday evening, the basketball association sent information to its clubs that all games in the district and district leagues had been canceled until further notice. This applies to the Jahn women's team, which should have played at Munich Basket II on Saturday. On Thursday the association decided to interrupt the season in the higher leagues. “For us, the focus is on the health and well-being of everyone involved. The Bavarian basketball clubs are recommended to also temporarily suspend training activities in order to minimize social contacts in basketball, ”said BBV President Bastian Wernthaler.

Buhl was very relieved after this clear announcement: "We had already considered during the week how to proceed with the training operation - there was room to offer voluntary training." In the meantime, the main club has completely stopped its sports operations. Overall, Buhl would prefer the season to be over. Because if the round continues in May, this will create new problems. Many players would then no longer be available because they had already made appointments in the private or professional area. Buhl considers it questionable whether it will be possible to continue playing in May: “I'm not a virologist, but I think that we have not yet reached the peak of the Corona crisis , so we cannot make any predictions as to when it will continue . "

In the Jahn warehouse, it is of course very curious to see how the association proceeds. Should the round end and the current standings decide on promotion and relegation, that would be bitter for the men and women team. The Jahn girls would be deprived of the opportunity to advance, the men would have to be the last to leave the Bayernliga - and would have no chance of remaining relegated. Buhl would therefore favor the solution of declaring the season over and foregoing relegation and relegation: “I would find such a regulation the fairest. We would annul this season - and start all over again in autumn. ”

Handball: Youth company completely discontinued

The handball teams from the district are also affected: Until further notice, adult games will not take place, confirms the Vice President of the Bavarian Handball Association, Ingrid Schuhbauer from the HSG Freising-Neufahrn. “The youth business is completely discontinued - the rounds are no longer continued. With the adults, we have to look further first. ”No later than April 19, a decision will be made about a possible reinstatement of the game and the season ratings. It is therefore not out of the question that the season will continue afterwards. However, there is currently no certainty that the Presidium will seek advice after the ban has ended, according to Ingrid Schuhbauer. The association's decision naturally has an impact on the training activities in the clubs: According to Lukas Monz, coach of the Echingen handball men, "the training was initially suspended". And Walter Schuhbauer of the HSG men also says: “We have to wait and see the current development. Next week, training for the youth teams will be suspended for the time being. "

Table tennis: Game operation ended

The current situation has prompted the Bavarian Table Tennis Association (BTTV) to stop officially playing games with immediate effect. "In the past few days we have tried to end the game in the 2019/2020 season in an orderly manner, " explains President Konrad Grillmeyer. "In view of the constantly changing framework conditions, it was imperative to give absolute priority to health." Specifically, this means that the 2019/2020 season will end. There are no more team fights - and these are no longer recorded. The rating of the season will be decided at a later date. Similarly, the decision applies to single game play. Here the BTTV recommends the clubs to cancel planned open tournaments. "I definitely understand this step," emphasizes Michael Bulenda, Team Leader for Men I at TTC Freising. If the schools and daycare centers were closed and numerous events were canceled, it would no longer be possible to maintain a sports facility. Simply interrupting the season would not have been an option for him. “The round would then last until May or June. In addition, it is unpredictable how the situation will develop. "
