The American Athletics Federation today called for the postponement of the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 due to the spread of the Corona virus.
Reuters reported that Max Siegel, chief executive of the American Athletics Federation, called on the International Olympic Committee to postpone the Tokyo Olympics, which is scheduled to be held from July 24 to August 9.
The American Athletics Association joined the American Swimming Association, which in turn called for the postponement of the Olympic Games.
For his part, Glenn Mills, the former coach of the famous Jamaican runner, Usain Bolt, called for the postponement of the Tokyo Olympics until next year in light of the continued spread of the infection with the Corona virus and the "wide-ranging risks involved".
"This will be unprecedented, but we are facing an unprecedented situation," he said. "Let's postpone everything for a year and at the end the situation will return to its previous state."
The International Olympic Committee and the organizers of the Tokyo Olympics announced earlier that the major sporting event will be held on time next July and without any change in plans.
