Due to the corona virus, the organizers of large sporting events in the Miesbach district are on hold. The first runs have already been canceled or postponed.

District - In just over three weeks, on April 18, the starting shot should have been given for the numerous running and major events in the Oberland. The 26th Schaftlach spring forest run had traditionally started the season. Would have. Because of the Corona crisis, TSV Schaftlach has already canceled the event. To the regret of Sabine Kirchmair, sports officer for the district: “It was always a really good start to the running season. Everyone from the dwarfs to the adults ran along. ”But it is now completely open when the major sporting events in the district begin.

Also off the table is the Hasenöhrl run, the company run in Geitau in Bayrischzell, now known as “Teams on the Move”. Managing Director Frank Hasenöhrl has already postponed the event from May 16 to September 15. The next option would be the Sixtus Lauf Schliersee, which is also scheduled to take place on May 16. The organizers still hope that they can keep the appointment. After all, over 700 participants had already registered at the beginning of March.

Kirchmair: Can’t say at the moment what will happen next

Whether the Sixtus Lauf Schliersee can take place depends above all on the developments surrounding the corona virus in the next few weeks. "You can't say anything about that," says Kirchmair. She expects the organizers to make a decision in a week or two. Because not only the participants want to know in good time whether they can start or not, but also the other participants involved in catering or supporting programs.

A postponement to a later point in the year is conceivable. In the event of a possible search for a new date, the organizers - not only at the Sixtus Lauf Schliersee - must then overcome all the hurdles that they already have for the current one. "Road closures require approval from the road construction office," explains Kirchmair. The office must check whether construction sites are planned in the nearer area for the desired period or whether rail traffic is affected by the route. Approval can only be granted if there are no collisions here. “You can't say that if the road is closed in April or May, that also applies in September,” Kirchmair continues. "Everything is over for the time being."

Kirchmair: Optimistic that we can do it together

That is why she understands that the organizers remain on hold for now. This also applies to events that are only planned for a few months, such as the Alpine triathlon in Schliersee or the Tegernsee triathlon. "Everyone is waiting," says Kirchmair. Also the cyclists who actually want to hold the 20th district championship from May. Runners, triathletes and cyclists still have an advantage in these times. In contrast to team athletes, they can train specifically at home or in the vicinity. "Of course that doesn't apply to others."

In addition, many clubs are concerned about how things could go after the crisis. "We have had a few calls here, it affects us all terribly," says Kirchmair. The problem: The district or the respective associations cannot support the clubs with a targeted financial injection. The Bavarian Football Association had already announced this. "Kirchmair is nevertheless optimistic" that we can all do it together. "
