After the sporty promotion to the men's 60 regional league, there was another one - namely the men's 65 age group. There a place was vacated by the withdrawal of a team for Zollinger as a side entrant. Only the number one, Maciej Przybylski, cannot participate in the team due to his age after the accepted application. With the exception of Helmut Fischer, none of the Zollinger team has played in the Regionalliga.
"We would also have had nothing against another trip away with an overnight stay," emphasizes Fahrmeier. However, the group consists entirely of Bavarian clubs, and 1. FC Nürnberg will compete with their team in Zolling. The newcomer from the Ampertal now wants to secure relegation and then continue to watch.
"I think we are more in the league than at the bottom"
The SpVgg has one of the younger teams in the league, but doesn't have to hide from anyone. "Of course, nobody would mind being first again," says Fahrmeier. There are no federal leagues in the higher age groups, but only a final tournament of the four regional league champions for the German championship. If this year or 2021 - then again with the Przybylski pausing this year - this opportunity arises, then the team that is hungry for success will be there immediately. Fahrmeier is not afraid of the competition: "I think that we will be playing in the league more above than below."
The power of men 60, who are now men 65, is even more impressive against the background that the team has been playing together for years and almost all players come from the district - Zollinger, Kranzberger and Freisinger have come together with Ireneusz Ciszewski as a driving force . The SpVgg club coach, who celebrates his 65th birthday in October, was a guarantor in second place in the championship season with a record of 6: 0 wins in singles and 5: 1 successes in doubles. Only his Polish friend Przybylski, who played with a 6-0 record in his own league, was even better. He also made the difference compared to previous years when it had only been enough for the vice title several times.
The Zollinger tennis senior is the icing on the cake for the team of the year, but they could not celebrate their success because of Corona. Now everyone hopes that the season will start on June 8th - and that the way will be cleared for new exploits.
