Following the domino effect that began with the major cancellations of 2020, most notably the Tokyo Olympics, European media reports indicate that the European Basketball Championship is slated to take place in the summer of 2021 for the following summer.
Championship captains are aware of the fact that it is not feasible to qualify for the Olympics, the Olympic Tournament and the European Championships that summer. Therefore, there is a possibility that the championship in which Israel is almost certain to secure its place, will be held the following summer.
By 2017, the European Championships were held once every two years, but for now it looks like it will complete a five-year hiatus. However, it seems that the four hosts: Germany, the Czech Republic, Georgia and Italy will retain their status, and the final stages will remain in Germany.
Meanwhile, FIBA has announced that all eight teams that secured their place in the Olympics will also be there next summer. The other four teams will come as scheduled from four pre-Olympic tournaments. Nigeria and Iran.
