- Formula 1 has postponed its season start until further notice
- Due to the Corona crisis *, the first eight races of the season were canceled
- Red Bull wanted to use the time and apparently send its drivers to a "corona camp "
Munich - While many people in Europe, Asia and the USA die from the consequences of a Coronaviurs infection, Formula 1 racing team Red Bull * briefly had a very macabre idea. The former team of Sebastian Vettel * wanted to infect his drivers with the virus in a “corona camp”.
Red Bull motorsport consultant Helmut Marko made this controversial proposal to his racing team in the corona crisis . The 76-year-old Austrian gave the team the idea that the drivers could deliberately become infected with the virus in order to immunize themselves.
Formula 1: "Corona Camp" planned! Red Bull deliberately wanted to infect its drivers
"We have four Formula 1 drivers , we have eight or ten juniors, and the idea was that we would organize a camp where we could bridge this somewhat dead time mentally and physically," said Marko at ORF1 - Sport am Sonntag . The pilots are "all young, strong, really healthy men", who later, "whenever it starts", would have been prepared for a "probably very tough World Cup".

When asked how the idea was received, Marko replied with a smile: "It was not received positively." Red Bull runs its own academy for young talent and still has a sister team in Alpha Tauri.
Formula 1: season start postponed - season until January?
After the cancellation of the first eight Grand Prix of this Formula 1 season, Marko does not consider an extension of the season until January to be excluded. “If we choose a world champion in January, that's okay. We skip the test drives, the chassis stays the same, the tires stay the same, and the cost of a test is roughly comparable to a race. From this perspective, we would have been more attractive at the same cost, ”he said.
