The former French player, now coach of Lucas Pouille, believes that the global aspect of the pandemic prevents a short-term recovery

"No vaccine = no tennis". Former French world number one Amélie Mauresmo estimates, in a message posted on Twitter on Tuesday, that the 2020 season will not be able to resume due to the Covid-19 pandemic which affects the entire planet and, consequently, tournaments.

"I think we will have to draw a line under the 2020 tennis season", writes the coach of Lucas Pouille while all ATP and WTA tournaments are suspended since Indian Wells which was to start on March 12, and that the Fed Cup (April 14-19), managed by the international federation (ITF), has been postponed for an indefinite date.

I think we're going to have to draw a line under the 2020 tennis season. International circuit = players of all nationalities plus management, spectators and people from the 4 corners of the world who bring these events to life.

"International circuit = players of all nationalities plus management, spectators and people from the four corners of the world who bring these events to life," recalls Mauresmo, ex-captain of the French Fed Cup team and winner of two Grand Slam titles (Australia and Wimbledon 2006).

Roland-Garros wants to fight this fall

To date, the expected restart date is June 8 with the ATP turf tournaments in Stuttgart and s'Hertogenbosch, and the WTA tournaments in Bol (clay), Nottingham and s'Hertogenbosch (turf). But the Wimbledon organizers could decide to cancel the Major on grass (scheduled from June 29 to July 12), which would jeopardize the whole season on this surface.

The French Tennis Federation (FFT) has decided to move Roland-Garros, scheduled from May 24 to June 7, in the fall, from September 20 to October 4. A unilateral choice criticized by a large part of the tennis world.
