National hero in 2002
Rüsut Reçber, Turkish team caps record holder with 120 capes, was the national hero at the 2002 World Cup. His team went all the way to the semi-finals and took 3rd place, the biggest feat of Turkish football. Today aged 46, he retired in 2012 and had notably gone through Fenerbahçe, Besiktas but also at FC Barcelona for a year.
