Hamburg (dpa) - Club legend Uwe Seeler has warned the second division soccer team Hamburger SV against the recent quarrels about negative effects on the sport.

"HSV can no longer afford many crises. I do not hope that the current arguments affect the team too much," said the 83-year-old honorary captain of the German national team in a Sport1 interview. Seeler is seriously concerned about his club's return to the Bundesliga: "After the last games I have my doubts."

The season in the 2nd Bundesliga is currently interrupted due to the coronavirus pandemic. After 25 match days, the Hamburgers are in third place in the table.

After the quarrels in the executive floor in the new supervisory board chairman Marcell Jansen, Seeler has high hopes. "I think that Jansen is predestined for this task, he is the best solution now," said the Norderstedter. "He is an athlete, knows the business and is not a fool, but a friendly and honest person. I just like his way."

HSV broke up with CEO Bernd Hoffmann last Saturday. HSV President and ex-international Jansen became the new Chairman of the Supervisory Board as successor to Max-Arnold Köttgen. The control panel now consists of five people.
