Simon Steiner currently has his hands full. Despite the classic home office. "Actually, we wanted to start athletics training again on April 20," reports the former TEV Miesbach trainer. "But at the moment I am creating a lot of training plans for the players at home."

The field of activity of the 34-year-old South Tyrolean has currently changed a little. Since he left TEV Miesbach about a year ago - Steiner worked for the Red and Whites for four seasons in different functions - he has now been one of three full-time junior coaches at ESV Kaufbeuren. An absolute dream station for Steiner. "I had good experiences in the senior sector in Miesbach, and I also learned a lot," he says. "But I can shape a lot in the youth field, and I find that exciting."

Now he can go back to his hobby in the Allgäu - promoting young talent. In addition to coaching at the U15, Steiner supports the club's own U7, U9 and U11 and is also responsible for athletic training in numerous teams. "It's great to see what we've got out this year," he sums up.

Last but not least, he means the U15 selection of ESV Kaufbeuren. With his team, Steiner ended up in second place in the Bayernliga just behind leaders Landshut. The actual season highlight should then follow at the end of March: a tournament for the German championship in the home hall in Kaufbeuren. But the Corona crisis didn't just put a spanner in the works for the Allgäu. As is known, all ice hockey competitions were canceled. "It is extremely bitter for us," admits Steiner. "We hoped to the end that the tournament for the German championship could work." Not only for him that was "quite unsatisfactory because we were cheated of our hard work to a certain extent."

So now the focus is on the coming season. "We will work together a lot in the summer, especially when it comes to strength units and athletic training," explains Steiner. The planning for classic summer training is in full swing.

Despite his new job, the South Tyrolean has not lost sight of his old home. "I'm still following the TEV Miesbach very closely," he reports. "We broke up in good terms and I only wish the TEV the best." But first the 34-year-old is looking forward to his future tasks at ESV Kaufbeuren. His contract was recently extended by two more years.
