Maccabi Haifa players have cut 31 percent of their wages by the end of the season, with two percent of them being directed to donate to Holocaust survivors and those in need of Passover.
Club President Jacob Shahar decided to double the donation from his own pocket. Thirty percent of the donation will be donated to the Yad Ezer Friend, which helps Holocaust survivors in the Haifa area. The rest of the money will be used to purchase medical equipment for doctors, nurses and staff at Rambam, Bnei Zion and Carmel hospitals in Carmel City.
"It was important for us at this simple hour to help these institutions in the city - institutions that make a great contribution to the community and even to Maccabi Haifa during routine," Shachar told the club's website, adding: "I thank the medical staff and all the many volunteers for their work, tirelessly, in this complex reality. And strengthens them. Happy Holidays and Health to all. "
Captain Neta Lavie added: "On behalf of the players, we are pleased that part of the amount will be donated to these institutions and Holocaust survivors. We wish everyone a solid health and a happy spring holiday."
Shimon Sabag, CEO and founder of Yad Auxiliary helped a friend: "Maccabi Haifa and the association have been working together for the sake of Holocaust survivors and the elderly in need. For the past two years, the cooperation has only intensified. Haifa and its donation, hundreds of Holocaust survivors will make the holiday on their desks plentiful. Accumulated, but with the broad heart and the weak help. "
