Mainz (AP) - Virologist Alexander Kekulé considers ghost games in the Bundesliga to be "purely virologically possible" from May.
"You could theoretically secure the games, that's possible," said Kekulé in the "Current Sports Studio" of ZDF. "Everything is possible, of course, but you always have to think about how to explain to people that football receives such special treatment." The Bundesliga is currently paused until at least the end of April.
According to Kekulé, the professionals would have to be isolated and regularly tested for ghost games. The virologist also uses protective measures such as wearing face masks. "You would have a kind of special bubble for the football players," he said.
Kekulé also renewed its assessment that there would be no soccer games with spectators this year. "From the current point of view, I would not plan anything more with an audience this year. At the moment it does not look as if we could seriously consider something like this this year," said the director of the Institute for Medical Microbiology at the University Hospital Halle / Saale.
