Cairo - Sana
The Confederation of African Football Confederation (CAF) President Ahmed Ahmed confirmed that there is no possibility to amend the date of the African Cup of Nations 2021 finals scheduled between January and February in Cameroon.
"We hope to take advantage of the remaining dates to finish the qualifiers for the African Nations Cup finals ... I currently do not see any room to talk about modifying the date of their stay in Cameroon," the CAF president said.
Ahmed added: "Football is suspended worldwide, as is the case with other activities ... We are looking for the elimination or control of the Coronavirus, and after that we look at our available dates in order to remedy the current stoppages."
"We have FIFA dates that allow everything to be completed on time, even if some World Cup qualifying rounds are postponed after FIFA understands the situation, of course," the Confederation of Africa said.
He continued: "I reiterate that the human dimension is at the forefront of our preoccupations now ... the safety of people and individuals first and after that we will manage to adjust the dates of the remaining matches of the Confederation and the African Champions League."
It is reported that the third and fourth rounds of the qualifiers for the nations of Africa 2021 were scheduled for last March, but they were postponed to next June due to the outbreak of the Corona pandemic.
