Former FIFA President Sepp Blatter confirmed the presence of "political interference" in the decision to grant the right to host the 2022 World Cup to the sheikh of Qatar.
"There was agreement in the FIFA Executive Committee that the 2018 World Cup for Russia and the World Cup 2022 for the United States ... but political interference took place to grant the right to host the 2022 World Cup to Qatar," the website of Monte Carlo International Radio quoted Blatter, who has been FIFA president for 17 years until 2015, as saying. In this type of decision, high-level political interference takes place. ”
Blatter pointed out that the failure of the contract to award the World Cup 2022 to the United States is due to the interference of the French government during the era of former President Nicolas Sarkozy during a lunch with his compatriot Michel Platini, who was then a member of the FIFA Executive Committee and who admitted to voting for the sheikh of Qatar.
And yesterday, federal prosecutors in the United States accused former officials of the International Federation, particularly from South America, of receiving bribes in order to vote for the sheikh of Qatar to host the World Cup 2022.
It is noteworthy that the corruption scandals related to the 2022 World Cup have been chasing Qatar's sheikhdoms since 2010 and even before it won the right to host it, as the media exposed several corruption practices carried out by the Al Thani regime and provided bribes in order to organize this important sporting event.
