UEFA President Alexander Chevirin confirmed today that local leagues across the continent are ready to resume activity behind closed doors in an attempt to reduce the damage caused by the outbreak of the emerging Corona virus.
"The resumption of the competitions will be an important step towards returning to normal life and avoiding the huge financial losses of the championships, and I believe that there are options that can allow us to resume and complete the cup competitions," Reuters quoted Ceferin as saying in an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera published today.
"We may have to resume the matches without an audience, but the most important thing is to play the matches instead of not playing at all," he added.
UEFA President explained that if the tournaments return soon, the European Champions League and the Europa League can be played in parallel without setting a specific date for the finalists.
Coffed 19 has suspended various sport competitions around the world without excluding the vast majority of European national championships, continental club competitions and teams that have been suspended indefinitely.
UEFA also had to postpone the Euro 2020 tournament until the summer of next year.
