Arsenal have announced that they have agreed with the players about a salary waiver. Mesut Özil is said to have rejected this.

  • Arsenal FC announced an agreement with the players.
  • Mesut Özil is one of the club's top earners - but apparently he does not want to join the majority.

London - FC Arsenal, like Bayern Munich, can rely on the support of its players in the Corona crisis *. As the club announced on Monday, the leadership has agreed with the players on a salary waiver . The stars want to forego 12.5 percent of their salary for a year.

"We are pleased to announce that we have signed a voluntary agreement with our players and coaching staff that will help the club in these difficult times," said the English  Premier League club in a statement.

Arsenal FC: International Qualification Paybacks

Arsenal gives players the opportunity to win the money back with sporting success. If they reached the Champions League * , the stars would get their entire salary back - plus a bonus. Qualifying for the Europa League would also mean 7.5 percent of the salary.

However, the negotiations have not gone as positively as it sounds in the communication. The English Daily Mirror claims that three players refused to do so. Including the former German  international Mesut Özil!

Mesut Özil doesn't want to forego salary - despite a monster salary at Arsenal

Özil is said to earn an insane weekly salary of 400,000 euros from the  " Gunners" and is therefore one of the top earners. The 31-year-old does not want to rule out making financial cuts in the future - but he wants to find out first of all how the Corona crisis will affect the club.

In line with this, Özil consultant Erkut Sögüt , who had already commented on this at the beginning of April, is quoted by the Bild newspaper: “A deferral would be an option. There is currently no waiver if the clubs may make the same profit as last year. We'll see the exact financial impact in three to six months, but not yet today. ”

Mesut Özil does not want to comment yet - fuss over Arsenal's salary

It was also not enough to negotiate with just one team member and ask them to drive all other players to a common consensus. According to Sögüt, individual contract negotiations should not take place this way.

Özil has not yet commented publicly on the reports. However, the pressure on him is likely to increase further. His former national team colleague Toni Kroos, for example, knows how heated the debate about salary cuts can get. There have also been fierce discussions about this at FC Barcelona.
