Taekwondo online dahoam: Mental growth in crisis.

Grünwald– Looking at the Corona crisis from a positive side? What sounds strange at first seems natural to Robin Basu. "It's a mega chance to use the headwind and grow mentally," says the taekwondo master and owner of three martial arts schools in Starnberg, Gilching and Grünwald. Basu adds: "In such situations, you can create a feeling for your own strength." The 38-year-old wants to teach this to as many people as possible in these difficult times. He is therefore offering his half-hour Taekwondo online course free of charge until further notice.

For Basu, sport is more than a hobby. "Martial arts is a school of life" is the name of his school's website "Method Taekwondo", which the 5th degree master has been running for 15 years. This is not the only reason why Basu can draw on a wealth of experience. At the university he researched how crisis situations develop personality and also wrote his dissertation on this connection. "We shouldn't be afraid of what's to come," says Basu, adding: "You can train this perfectly with martial arts." Nevertheless, you still have to be careful and take care of your health, he says. The Gilchinger therefore considers the current measures taken by the state government to be correct.

With his new project, Basu would like to help keep children and adults fit to move, despite the initial restrictions.

For this purpose, he stands in front of the camera every day from Monday to Saturday, at 5 p.m. for the children, at 6.30 p.m. for the adults. "It is very intense. I get a lot of news that, for example, children come out of their rooms sweaty and feel like they are born again, ”says Basu.

But he wants to promote and mobilize not only the physical, but also the inner forces in this time of crisis. "I want to work with the participants on self-confidence and call up their mental strength," explains the triple father. "I want to convey the feeling that it's hard outside, but I can feel my strength."

Such "online training courses", as Basu calls them, are not new to him, but were previously reserved for the members of his martial arts schools. When asked by some of his students, the 38-year-old decided to temporarily open the internet portal to the general public. Interested parties only have to provide their data. Basu wants to make sure that there are no fake profiles on his site.

The Taekwondo master films his videos live, which means that he can also see the participants on his screen and interact with them. "The majority of the half hour is planned, but in the end there is often a little time for games or suggestions from the participants," says Basu. I have a lot to do with imagination, imagination. So he lets his protégés complete a course run in their minds. "I am surprised how well children can imagine that and move accordingly," says Basu, whose own children are also actively involved in taekwondo sports.

Like his three young fighters, Robin Basu grew up in the Starnberg district. Here is his home, here he would like to help his fellow human beings with taekwondo in times of the corona crisis - and take away some of their fear.

The online training

from Robin Basu is available for free until further notice. For the new registration, an email with the name, age and address of the participant to online@ethod-taekwondo.de is sufficient
