Will the Bundesliga continue with ghost games in May? A decision is imminent. All developments in our news ticker.

  • What's next in the sports world?
  • On April 23, the DFL will advise on how to proceed in the Bundesliga.
  • Politicians are divided on the continuation from May 9. The most important thing about Corona is also available on our brand new Facebook page Corona News. Become a fan now.

3:39 pm:  That's it! The press conference ended almost exactly an hour later.

The most important points: The TV money flows, so a liquidity of the clubs is guaranteed until June 30th. But: No agreement was reached with a provider.

DFL boss Christian Seifert once again made it clear that the decision to restart the Bundesliga was not made by the DFL - but by politics. He did not give an exact date for the restart. That is because politics still determines it. With the elaboration of the concept, he was concerned with one thing: "When day X will be there, we will be ready." Whether May 9 or later.

Bitter for the fans: Seifert could imagine that the first half of the coming season will also take place without the spectators - and even goes further: "We don't know if we will talk about ghost games in January, February, March."

Bundesliga: Press conference with DFL boss Christian Seifert - an overview of the most important statements

15:37:  Seifert noticed that fan groups want to torpedo the restart. He therefore makes the individual clubs responsible. "I would like to have a sense of proportion. I hope that the clubs will be able to speak to their fan scenes. ”It should not happen that there will be large fan runs in front of the stadiums at ghost games.

15:33:  Seifert knows that there are critical comments on the Bundesliga. "I can understand that emotionally, really." He cannot assess complaints from other sports. Professional sport is not only professional football, but there are also other framework conditions. "200 people in a stadium for 70,000 people can keep enough distance."

Bundesliga: ghost games even 2021? Seifert does not rule out anything

15:31:  "Planning in shorter stages is the right approach," explains Seifert. Therefore, he could not give estimates for further dates or the new season. "We do not know if we will talk about ghost games in January, February, March." Seifert says that the first half of the new season - if it starts normally in August - may still have to take place in the stadiums without spectators. "It is far too early to speculate when people can go back to the stadium."

3:29 pm:  Which match day would the season continue? "No decision has yet been made," answers Seifert. The DFL would then consult on this. In terms of the DFB Cup or international competitions, he refers to the DFB and UEFA. But: "Should we end the season in June or July, we cannot assume that there will be a collision of appointments," emphasizes Seifert. The CL and EL already had plans for August.

15:28:  According to Prof. Meyer, there were no players who would have spoken out against continuing the season.

15:26:  Must the season on June 30 be finished? "It should be on June 30th. be over, ”says Seifert. Also with regard to contracts. But a season end in July would also be "reproducible".

3:21 pm: The next conference of the federal government is scheduled for  April 30th. "It is not up to us when and who makes which decision," says Seifert. The RKI is also working on the decision. “We don't want a special role for football. The peculiarities of professional football require such a concept if you want to continue playing. If this is criticized, you have to accept it. ”You also have to discuss the development of the past few years with the clubs, why some decision-makers may have a negative attitude towards professional football.

3.18 p.m .: According to Seifert, there is no point in the concept that includes the training operation before the restart. There are exceptional conditions that cannot be compared to a normal week. "The sporting area is required to show a certain amount of flexibility." It is difficult to plan the time required for training before the start. "It is not up to us to make a request," said Seifert. April 27 as the start for team training is not planned in the concept.

Bundesliga: TV funds flow - DAZN has also agreed

3:15 p.m .:  "There is a company with which we have not reached an agreement - it is not DAZN", emphasizes Seifert. He contradicts the latest rumors of the kicker . It is clear that the further course has an impact on the value of the rights. The main focus is on the days when the Bundesliga is shown. After all, there are some formats that are only shown on Saturday evening, for example.

15:11:  Seifert reports that there have been 14 positively tested players so far. "They have all been well for a long time." The question of whether you will be infected on the way to work tomorrow, "we all have," says Seifert. He and the DFL officials try to make the scenario for football as clear as possible. Should there be a second lockdown in Germany, the contractually agreed test capacities would "of course" be made available to the state.

3:09 p.m .:  According to Prof. Meyer, 40 people per club are required to take tests at least once a week - for a period of eight to ten weeks. However, there could also be English weeks. “The assumption of a number of around 20,000 tests is certainly realistic. But it is more likely that there will be fewer because we will not get the ten weeks of play. "

3:06 p.m .:  There was no concern on the part of the clubs to start again in May, as Seifert explains. Prof. Meyer adds that of course it would take a certain lead time in terms of training.

3:04 pm:  Prof. Meyer emphasizes: "Due to the bundle of our measures, our players and coaches are not classified as high-risk groups."

Bundesliga: restart on May 9? DFL boss Seifert becomes clear

3:00 p.m .:  The questions of the journalists follow. Is May 9th even conceivable as a restart? Seifert explains: “Today we have not defined a time when the Bundesliga should play again. We cannot do that, it is not our competence and it is not our task. We only have the hand to say: 'Yes, the Bundesliga is ready.' ”But the final decision has to be made by politics.

The task of the DFL is to convey to the decision-makers that one is prepared in the best possible way. If it is supposed to be May 9th from the political side, "then it will be May 9th," says Seifert. If there is a signal for a later appointment, then you will be ready for that day. In conclusion, he explains: "It would be presumptuous to set a date."

14:57:  Prof. Barbara Gärtner explains that there will be hygiene officers for every team. Also in the domestic area, players and coaches should not take risks. There are clear recommendations for this. "That requires discipline," she emphasizes.

2:54 p.m .:  Now Prof. Tim Meyer speaks about the task force. An “approximately 50-page document” was drawn up. There are three pillars, firstly "infection monitoring". The second pillar concerns the training grounds and the stadiums. Furthermore, the concept is based on the numerous tests carried out by those involved.

2:53 p.m .:  Seifert makes it clear that the planned tests will not block the capacities that the players need for society. He also confirms (see below) the payment of 7.5 million euros for the third division and the women's Bundesliga.

Bundesliga: agreement with media partners - only one provider goes on strike

2:47 p.m .:  Seifert had, he continues, informed the clubs that discussions had been held with all media partners. "With one exception, agreements were reached with all partners," he says. It is now possible to gradually make liquidity available to all clubs by June 30. “I thank all the partners who made this possible. A special thank you goes to Sky. ”But all other partners would also have participated - with one exception.

2.45 p.m .: Seifert would like to present a concept that satisfies politics. "We do our best to create a sound basis for decisions that the Bundesliga can get back into sooner or later."

2:43 pm:  Seifert says: "I am sitting here today as a representative of a company that wants to return to work."

2:41 pm : The PK begins, Christian Seifert takes the floor. He explains that there must be a strategy for the current scenario. "At some point it has to go on, at some point it will go on - even if that is only possible in small steps."

"It is not up to us to set a start date for the Bundesliga," says Seifert. The decision lies with politics. At the moment, ghost games are the only way to "keep the Bundesliga alive," said Seifert.

Bundesliga: DFL statement expected shortly - what does Seifert announce at the press conference?

2:31 pm:  News from Frankfurt: The press conference is about to begin.

Bundesliga: Markus Söder gives hope to football fans

1.40 p.m .:  Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder made a public statement about the Bundesliga comeback . In a press conference on Thursday, he said: “The DFL has made a proposal that I find very exciting . If the RKI says 'yes', if the health authorities agree, then there is a good chance that something like this can take place, ”said Söder, referring to ghost games. “You have to check weekly. Football has a psychological effect on many people. ”It would make many people's lives easier if football could take place .

13:33:  We still have to wait for answers from the DFL , but in the meantime there is a decision from UEFA - the next major event will be postponed by a year.

12.57 p.m .:  It should not be long before DFL boss Christian Seifert informs about the outcome of the general meeting . However, Seifert will not be available for questions at the subsequent press conference alone.

As the DFL announced on Thursday afternoon, Prof. Dr. med. Tim Meyer (Head of the “Task Force Sports Medicine / Special Game Operations”, Medical Director of the Institute for Sports and Preventive Medicine at the University of Saarland, Doctor of the German National Team), Prof. Dr. med. Barbara Gärtner (member of the "Task Force Sports Medicine / Special Game Operations", specialist for microbiology and infection epidemiology, Saarland University) and Christian Pfennig (member of the DFL management) also take part in the PK.

Probably the most important finding in advance: The restart of the Bundesliga, which was targeted for May 9 a few days ago, will be difficult to keep .

Bundesliga: DFL advises - when will there be a restart?

12.35 p.m .:  While football fans are eagerly awaiting the decisions of the DFL , Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen has announced that it will not resume ticket sales this season .

Buyers of tickets “can now apply for reimbursement or donate the equivalent to two non-profit organizations,” says the Werkself.

12.27 p.m .:  The concept for holding ghost games in the Bundesliga has been available since Thursday from the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) in Dortmund. This was confirmed by a spokesman for the BAuA of the German Press Agency. However, after reviewing the concept, on which it has not worked, the Federal Agency would not decide on the execution of football games without spectators.

The federal states and their respective health authorities are responsible for monitoring occupational safety and health and for arranging something . The BAuA has sovereign tasks with international activities in the field of the regulation of industrial chemicals and the approval and evaluation of biocidal products.

Bundesliga: DFL statement with Christian Seifert expected in the afternoon

12.07 p.m .:  The DFL video conference is in full swing. Apparently, an official statement from CEO Christian Seifert is expected from 1.30 p.m.

11.44 a.m .:  According to Spiegel , which has now also been confirmed by pay-TV broadcaster Sky , there is an aid package in the amount of 7.5 million euros for the third division and the women's Bundesliga .

The money comes from the 20 million pot of the four Champions League starters this season - FC Bayern, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen. However, the teams that have a men's Bundesliga club as the mother club are apparently excluded. So, among others, FC Bayern and VfL Wolfsburg .

Bundesliga: DFL documents revealed? Plans for tests and appointments

11:16:  The DFL virtual general meeting has recently started . The responsible parties consult on how to proceed with the Bundesliga *.

The picture has now apparently revealed official DFL documents. Among other things, it is about the tests that the players have to take.

Bundesliga: tests for 2.5 million euros? Plans revealed

It says that there should be "at least weekly nose and throat swabs". A PCR test is then planned, which is to be carried out in collaboration with four identified test laboratories. Antibody tests should also be carried out. The DFL clarifies that " no capacities for the population are affected ". In total, this and other tests appear to cost 2.5 million euros . By the end of the season there would be around 25,000 tests.

As the picture further reports, there are three plans for the further games . The 9th of May and the 16th of May are discussed as a restart, with all variants the season should continue with the 26th matchday.

Recently, however, the signs have increased that the 9th of May as the start date will hardly be tenable. The press conference after the DFL general assembly is expected this afternoon. Managing Director Christian Seifert will then provide information about the latest findings.

Meanwhile, UEFA is apparently discussing a crazy plan.

Bundesliga: DFL meets on April 23 - the decision is made by politics

10.13 a.m .:  Can the Bundesliga clubs * soon hope to pay the TV money? The fourth and final installment is still outstanding. Recently there were rumors that the first providers had already given a promise.

According to kicker , however, no commitment has yet been received from DAZN.

Update from April 23, 9.26 a.m .:  Important day for the Bundesliga! The DFL will meet from 11 a.m. to continue the season. You won't miss anything in our news ticker.

At 10 a.m., the UEFA Executive Committee will discuss the future of the Champions and Europa League.

Bundesliga: DFL before historic conference - first bad news leaked?

The starting point for the Bundesliga is clear: the DFL is discussing the concept paper that caused a sensation recently. However: Politicians have to make a final decision about professional football in Germany - at the next conference with Chancellor Angela Merkel on April 30th .

As the kicker reports, May 9 could be the beginning of the season again - the planning period would be too short. The Sports Ministers' Conference of the federal states (SMK) think more towards the middle or end of May - that's why the weekends around the 16th, 23rd and 30th of May come into focus.

Bundesliga sequel in May? DFL before decision - prominent political support

Update from April 22, 2020: The DFL wants to decide this week how to continue with the 2019/2020 Bundesliga season. Now the concept paper that a task force has created has been leaked and describes how the ghost games could work.

Berlin - Is the Bundesliga * about to make a comeback ? The corona crisis * paralyzed football all over the world, but recently there have been increasing voices - also from politics - that things could soon get going again in the German football upper house *.

In focus: the second weekend in May . Most recently, Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) and North Rhine-Westphalia's Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) made surprisingly clear statements about the continuation of the Bundesliga.

FDP chief Christian Lindner had already spoken on Twitter and announced that he would think it would be good news if the "ball rolled again in May".

It would be good news if the #Ball rolled again in May. That would make the #Corona crisis more bearable, at least for # soccer fans. However, this is only possible with appropriate precautions and before empty ranks. CL

Bundesliga: Continuation from May 9? DFL advises on decision

But there is a direct headwind for the project that is currently delighting the Republic's football fans. The Federal Ministry of the Interior is strictly against giving an appointment for the resumption of Bundesliga games. This emerges from a letter from the State Secretary of State Stephan Mayer (CSU) to the chair of the Minister of Sport, Bremen Senator Anja Stahmann (Greens), which is available to the German Press Agency.

Bundesliga: will the ball roll again in May? Split reactions from politics

In Tuesday's letter, the chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) agreed with the heads of government of the federal states until May 3 that measures to contain the coronavirus would also apply “without restriction” to sport. This was also discussed at the telephone switching conference of the sports ministers on Monday.

The Federal Ministry of the Interior , which is responsible for sport , is ready to "participate in conceptual considerations". In view of the continuing difficult pandemic situation, no openings or loosening for the sports business "at a specific date" should be promised at the moment .

Bundesliga: DFL advises on further procedure in general assembly

The DFL would like to advise on Thursday 23 April in a virtual conference with representatives of the Bundesliga clubs * on how to proceed. We keep you up to date with all developments in this news ticker

The UEFA is currently facing important decisions - when does the Champions League next? In the Premier League , on the other hand, it seems that at least a fundamental decision has already been made. In the meantime, the German handball Bundesliga is taking a completely different path.
