Almost everyone knows the name Anton Plattner in Upper Bavarian amateur football. The 71-year-old has had great success with all of his clubs. Even as a pensioner, the coaching legend is still training SV Dornach and is not even thinking about the end of his career. In the interview, Toni talks about his secrets of success, the current job at SV Dornach, the Corona break and his career.

Anton Plattner on the training free time

I currently have more time than usual and am very ambitious to train my dog. I still hope that football will continue soon. Something is simply missing in life. It's the same with my boys. They even sent me an app where you can see how much they are running. At SV Dornach, all of them are busy preparing.

"Actually I didn't want to have so many new players at Dornach"

Anton Plattner on the change at SV Dornach

I didn't really want so many new players to come to SV Dornach. I prefer to work with a team that has been together for a long time. However, a lot of players then canceled me for the new season, although they agreed to me in advance. So we had to react and add to the squad.

Anton Plattner on the new additions

It was easy to get new players on board as the ones we already had advertised well. When a player hears that training is fun and the coach is nice, it is no longer difficult to guide the boys to SV Dornach. So we managed to complement the squad with players who fit us very well.

Toni Plattner praises the character of the team

Anton Plattner on the first half of the season

The goal of the season was “play at the top” - between first and sixth place. So I'm actually happy with the first half of the season. However, it could be a little bit better. We sometimes left unnecessary points behind and acted stupid in some games like against TSV Eching. Nevertheless, the team shows character and that is commendable.

Anton Plattner on the climb

It is clear that one also speaks about the ascent. The team needs goals and also as a coach you need a goal. Placing yourself in the middle of the field and not thinking about bigger things is no fun. As a team, we decided to give everything and to contest the season as best we could. The team also shows their character here and proves that we can get involved up there.

"You have to be a trainer and a friend"

Anton Plattner on his secret of success

There is Toni Plattner as a human being. It is also important. You should get along well in a team. There shouldn't be a soccer player who wants to annoy you or doesn't listen to you. Everyone should always do their best. Loyalty is also important as a trainer. You should also remain calm and be in control of the situation. So the secret is to be recognized in the team and to act as a friend in addition to being a boss. Together you can be successful for years.

Anton Plattner on his cabin speeches

Already during the week it is important to properly prepare the boys for the upcoming opponent. The training will of course be adjusted. There will be a short motivational speech right before the game. In this I refer to the strengths of my team.

Anton Plattner on his most formative coaching station

The first stop at Eching was my most formative stop. I was there for eight and a half years. Back then we started in the A-Class and rose to the Bayernliga (then 3rd division). It was a wonderful and, above all, very successful time. It's amazing how the players have developed there.

Anton Plattner on his biggest challenge in his career

Every trainer station was a big challenge. As a trainer, I am always very motivated and I want to be as successful as possible. To do this, you always need a team that listens to you and accepts you. It is probably the greatest challenge as a coach to have a team that is 100 percent behind you.

In Platttner's eyes, humanity is the key to success

Anton Plattner on the change in the coaching profession

The tactical systems have changed a lot over time. Of course, the game is played a little faster, but humanity is still in the foreground today as it was then.

Anton Plattner on his nickname Platini

When I was younger I appeared to play similar to Michel Platini. Then my boys called me that at some point and it continues to this day.

There is no end of career in sight

As long as I still have fun at Dornach and am motivated in my work, there is no end in sight.

Anton Plattner on the corona crisis

If health permits, it would be very nice if we could finish the season.

Tips for younger coach colleagues

One should put humanity and loyalty in the foreground. It is important to build and develop the trust of the players. If you do all of this, then as a coach you are guaranteed to have a good time.
