Munich (dpa) - Hansi Flick knows about the extreme expectations of a coach at FC Bayern, which today even go beyond winning the title.
"In my time as a player, only success counted. You won 1-0, no matter how. Today, winning alone is not enough," said the 55-year-old in an interview with the club magazine "51".
The former Bayern professional (1985 to 1990) considers this claim to be "absolutely correct" and accepts it. "Of course it's all about the title in the end. But I can fully identify with the fact that Bayern meanwhile have the claim to inspire their fans beyond 1-0," said Flick, who headed Niko Kovac last November German soccer record champions had replaced. Flick's contract has since been extended to 2023.
"Every club defines success differently: subclass clubs are happy when they have 15 players in training. Some Bundesliga clubs celebrate when they keep the class. At Bayern, the double is basically mandatory and everyone longs for the triple," says the former assistant to national coach Joachim Löw.
For himself, he formulates his own definition of success: "For me, success is the result of a development. At FC Bayern you always have to aspire to constantly improve and get the most out of your dispositions or skills. I take that not myself out. " His route when working with the players and his coaching and support staff is: "It is important to me that you trust, that communication is high and that you convey appreciation. And: You have to enjoy what you do."
