Update from May 1, 2020: In April rumors spread that FC Bayern is said to have reached out to  Charles Aranguiz from Bayer Leverkusen . No wonder - the Chilean has played an important role in the “Werkself” for years and would have been a bargain for Bayern (see news from April 18). A few days later, Sport Bild classified the transfer rumor and reported that Aranguiz was “not an issue” with the German record champions.

With the contract extension of Aranguiz until 2023, which was announced on Friday, Leverkusen has now clarified this personnel. "Charles is a very important player for our team," said sporting director Rudi Völler : "The fact that we have once again agreed on a long-term contract underlines the full conviction of everyone involved and the mutual trust."  

Sports director Simon Rolfes was also pleased with the contract extension of Aranguiz and sees the Chilean as “a central, strategically very important player. It is an essential pillar for the statics of our team and the entire team. ”

Update of April 18, 2020:  The FC Bayern München to Leverkusen's interest in Charles Aranguiz have. The emphasis is on 'should' - because an actual transfer of the Chilean would have surprised all Bundesliga fans.

Aranguiz would be free of charge at the end of the season if Bayer 04 did not renew their expiring contract. Sports director Simon Rolfes had spoken in March of positive signals from the midfielder - but since then there has been no agreement on a new working paper. That is why many other clubs are associated with the right foot.

According to information from Sport Bild , Aranguiz is “not an issue” with the record champions, as FCB expert Tobias Altschäffl reports.
